HV Authorised Person (HVAP) - Data Centre Shift Engineer

Overview:
A leading global data centre and facilities management provider is seeking an experienced HV Authorised Person (HVAP) to join their shift engineering team at a critical London site. This role involves operational control, supervision, and hands-on maintenance within a high-availability data centre environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with Engineering Supervisors and Shift Leaders to deliver safe, compliant, and high-quality maintenance, ensuring uptime and reliability across all plant and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and carry out planned and reactive maintenance activities on building plant, electrical systems, and critical infrastructure

  • Act as the Authorised Person for high voltage (HV) systems, responsible for drafting and executing load transfer, isolation, and reinstatement schedules in line with safe working procedures

  • Manage Permit to Work processes and ensure all safety paperwork and documentation (RAMS, Method Statements, Risk Assessments) are completed to the highest standards

  • Monitor and respond to Building Management System (BMS) alarms and emergency repair requirements

  • Maintain critical cooling plant and ensure sufficient spares are available for uninterrupted operation

  • Oversee and coordinate subcontractor activities, ensuring compliance with site rules and contractual obligations

  • Maintain comprehensive maintenance records using CAFM or equivalent systems

  • Support incident response and fault management on site during shifts

  • Foster strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, and contractors

  • Maintain a professional image and deliver excellent customer service both on and off site

  • Commit to continuous personal development and maintain up-to-date training and qualifications
Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • HV Authorisation (HVAP) certification

  • Current Wiring Regulations (18th Edition or equivalent)

  • Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in electrical or related discipline

  • Experience in a similar role within a critical or business-continuity environment

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work

  • Emergency First Aid at Work qualification

  • Proven fault and incident management skills in real time

  • Good verbal communication, numeracy, and literacy skills

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Flexible approach to working hours and shift patterns

  • Able to safely ascend/descend vertical access equipment
Desirable Qualifications & Skills:

  • Manual Handling training

  • PASMA (Mobile Access Tower) and IPAF (Powered Access) certifications

  • Familiarity with multiple interlinked systems such as Fire, PMS, BMS

  • Strong organizational and prioritisation skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and ownership mentality
