We are looking for an experienced Functional Test Lead to join a critical programme transforming electricity transmission systems. This is a contracting role , working hybrid ( 3 days per week in office ) in Warwick, UK . The assignment is 6 months, with potential for extension .
Rate: £450/day

About the Programme

The programme is replacing the existing SCADA system with a modern solution to improve efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance. The system monitors ~350 substations , each with ~150 assets and 2,000 sensors, and integrates with other business systems. Testing is delivered through a mix of SCRUM (early stages) and Waterfall (functional test stages) .

Role Overview

The Functional Test Lead will:
Lead functional testing for Point-to-Point (P2P), Automation, STRC, and UAT stages.
Manage test analysts and SMEs, ensuring consistent planning, execution, and reporting.
Coordinate with SCRUM teams, platform teams, and external stakeholders to meet testing requirements.
Conduct QA on test deliverables , ensuring scope, coverage, and quality.
Support test automation initiatives in collaboration with Agile Test Leads.

Key Responsibilities

Define test scope, plans, and reports; estimate and manage resources.
Coordinate connected system testing and ensure high-quality deliverables.
Manage external dependencies such as test environments, data, and third-party support.
Implement standard test reporting dashboards (JIRA, Excel, Power BI).
Support defect management and deputise for Functional Test Manager as needed.

Required Experience

5+ years leading SIT and UAT in both Agile and Waterfall environments.
Strong skills in test planning, estimation, design, documentation, and defect management .
Experience with JIRA/XRAY Test Management and reporting via Excel/Power BI.
Practical experience implementing testing processes across client and supplier teams.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team-working skills.

Desirable

Knowledge of SCADA, Real-Time Control, and Network Monitoring Systems (OSI Aspentech/DGM a plus).
Experience with Oracle MFT or Mulesoft APIs .
Familiarity with relevant standards for power/control systems (IEC101, IEC104, GI74, IEC 61850, IEEE).
