About the Role
We're looking for a Data Science Manager to lead the development and integration of machine learning and advanced analytics solutions that support underwriting, risk selection, pricing, and automation.
This role will drive key data science initiatives including algorithmic risk ranking, profitability analysis, pricing model enhancement, and digital rule-based trading strategies. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with underwriters, actuaries, data engineers, and senior stakeholders to translate data into action and insights.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the data science function and manage a team of data scientists.
Design and deliver machine learning models to improve risk selection and decision-making.
Collaborate with digital trading and actuarial teams to analyse portfolios and refine pricing strategies.
Automate and enhance data pipelines using AI and ML techniques.
Support the development of strategic data assets and visualisations for underwriters.
Work closely with IT and engineering to integrate models into business systems.
Define and maintain best practices for data science operations.
Contribute to governance groups and play a role in model approval processes.
Key Requirements
7+ years' experience in Data Science or Actuarial roles (ideally within the Lloyd's market).
Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills.
Advanced knowledge of machine learning, data science techniques, and statistical analysis.
Strong programming expertise, especially in Python.
Experience with the Azure data stack (eg Data Factory, Synapse, SQL, Power BI) is a plus.
Background in collaborating with data engineers, IT teams, and business leaders.
Strong academic qualifications in a relevant field (eg Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics).
