Manual Test Engineer – Application Testing and Network Testing

Location: Wokingham / Warwick (Office-based)

Day Rate: £408 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: 6 months

The Role

The Manual Test Engineer will be responsible for performing end-to-end application testing and network-level testing to ensure the performance, reliability, and security of enterprise applications and infrastructure.

The role requires strong analytical skills, hands-on testing experience, and the ability to work in a secure, SC-cleared environment.

Responsibilities

Application Testing

Design and execute test cases based on functional and technical requirements.

Perform functional, regression, integration, exploratory, and end-to-end testing.

Validate workflows, data handling, APIs, and UI behaviour.

Support UAT cycles and collaborate with business users.

Log and manage defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence.

Network Testing

Conduct LAN, WAN, WiFi, and VPN connectivity testing.

Validate IP addressing, DNS/DHCP resolution, routing, and access controls.

Test application performance across varying network conditions.

Verify firewall rules, ports, and proxy configurations.

Support troubleshooting using logs, packet captures, and network traces.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain test plans, test cases, RTM, and test evidence.

Provide regular test reports and defect tracking updates.

Ensure accurate documentation in tools such as JIRA and Azure DevOps.

Quality Governance and Compliance

Follow ITIL-based change and release processes.

Ensure compliance with security standards in SC-cleared environments.

Adhere to QA standards, processes, and audit requirements.

Technical Skills

  • 3–7 years of hands-on manual testing experience
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, STLC, and defect lifecycle
  • Experience in web, mobile, and desktop application testing
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing fundamentals
  • Experience with LAN, WAN, and WiFi testing
  • Understanding of firewall and proxy behaviour
  • Ability to analyse logs, browser developer tools, and network traces
  • Basic SQL skills for backend data validation

SC Clearance Requirements

  • Must be eligible for SC clearance
  • Minimum of 5 years’ UK residency
  • Clean criminal record
  • Clean financial and credit history
  • Active SC clearance is highly desirable
  • Must comply with government security policies in secure environments
