Your role and responsibilities

As a Public Health and Communities Analyst, you will play a crucial role in our award-winning Analytics team within the wider Knowledge, Intelligence, and Evidence team, based in the Public Health and Communities Directorate. You will be responsible for providing high-quality data and analysis to drive evidence-based decision-making. On a typical day, you might:

  • Utilise your skills to produce routine and replicable reports using tools such as R.
  • Design and develop visual dashboards in Power BI to provide business intelligence.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to support a wide variety of projects and analytical needs across Public Health and Communities.
  • Present complex information to a variety of audiences in an understandable way.
  • Support the wider Suffolk system including, health and care partners across the county.
  • Your contributions will help improve outcomes across the Suffolk population in terms of health and well-being.

You will need

  • Experience in an analytical/intelligence role working with large volumes of data and the ability to produce both written and statistical reports
  • Proficiency in tools such as MS Excel, MS Power BI, SQL, R, or Python.
  • Project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • A passion for improving public health outcomes.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be a key part of the Public Health and Communities directorate working flexibly across services but with a focus on the provision of knowledge, intelligence, data analysis and evidence.

Day to day tasks may include

Produce routine and replicable reports using tools such as R, allowing internal and external stakeholders to understand key information about Public Health in Suffolk.

Provide easily accessible and high-quality data and intelligence to the Suffolk system using a range of approaches including written reports, infographics, numerical and statistical analysis, videos, and presentations.

Design, publish and develop visual dashboards in Power BI using tabular and multidimensional models in order to support business intelligence requirements and to turn data into insight.

Play a role in the ongoing development of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) for Suffolk through the development and provision of clear, self-service data, accessible to all, and presented with statistical rigour.

Extract, link, manipulate and analyse complex information to draw conclusions and generate reports and information in support of specific areas for use by internal and external colleagues.

Play a significant role in linking with IT to drive the ongoing development of innovative automated Business Intelligence tools and reporting infrastructure in relation to Public Health Analytics

Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the uses and capabilities of the various data sources related to Public Health data and support the delivery of local and national developments and improvements to these data sources.

Play a significant role in the provision of data and analytics which will drive our developing population health management work, working with senior and clinical stakeholders to define key questions about population health outcomes and risks, linking and analysing data to answer those questions, and supporting clinical teams to take action to improve health and reduce health inequalities.

Build positive and effective relationships and networks with key internal and external partners, and maintain those relationships over time, even when working under pressure and with a high degree of uncertainty.
