About The Role
Are you passionate about using data and statistics to make a meaningful impact within the health and care sector? If so, we have an exciting opportunity that might be just what you're looking for.
Our Public Health Intelligence and Insight Team provides crucial data and insights that commissioners need to drive targeted improvements in population health and to tackle health inequalities effectively.
You will play a key part in analysing complex data sets to identify public health trends, generating actionable insight to support Public Health and the wider Integrated Care System. Typically structured within needs assessments, your analyses will explore a variety of geographical areas, population groups, health and wellbeing issues, and inequalities, offering insights that guide our strategic decisions. You will provide vital support to Surrey's Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNA) assessing the current and future health and care needs for the Surrey system.
You will support the wider intelligence team with the completion of ad-hoc requests. This will include collaboration to refine research questions and managing the completion of projects in a timely manner. This will require a specialist understanding of public health data; where to access datasets, how to interpret complex public health datasets, and how to explain these results to the wider team to enable commissioning of services.
Whilst our focus is on public health, we value diversity in professional backgrounds. You don't need to have a background in public health to apply. Your transferable skills from other areas within the health and care system or from healthcare analytics could offer invaluable perspectives to our team.
Your Application
In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills, experience and align with our behaviours:
- Experience of using statistical and epidemiological methods for analysing data sets
- Experience of working with multiple sets of health-related data
- Experience of using analytics as evidence within assessments of need, dashboards, or other statistical reporting
- Knowledge of a coding language such as R, Python or SQL and experience of using code for data analysis and/or reports
- Experience of using, or interest in learning, Tableau for data visualisation

A basic DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) will be required for this role

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)
Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation and will move to new authorities in April 2027. This role is currently employed by Surrey County Council and will remain so until then. If you are employed by Surrey County Council on 1 April 2027, your employment will transfer under TUPE arrangements to one of the new councils, with your current terms and conditions protected. The provisional allocation for this post is West Surrey Council subject to final confirmation through the wider transition process later this year.
