Are you interested in using data to improve services and patient outcomes? This exciting role provides specialist analytical leadership for the South Wales Trauma Network, using data science, advanced analytics and business intelligence to support service improvement, research and evidence-based decision-making. The post holder will analyse and interpret complex trauma datasets, including data from the National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR) and the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank, developing dashboards, reports and actionable insights to support operational, managerial and strategic decision-making. Working closely with clinical, academic and operational colleagues, the role will drive quality improvement initiatives, service evaluation and research programmes that improve the delivery of trauma care and patient outcomes across South, Mid and West Wales.
Main duties of the job
The role provides specialist analytical leadership for the South Wales Trauma Network, supporting service evaluation, quality improvement, research and operational delivery through the analysis of complex trauma datasets. Working closely with clinical, operational and academic stakeholders, the post holder will develop and maintain dashboards, reports and analytical products, undertake advanced data analysis using sources including the National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR) and SAIL Databank, and generate insights to inform service planning, performance management and evidence-based decision-making. It is essential that the post holder possesses strong analytical, data warehousing and SQL skills, together with experience in business intelligence and data visualisation tools, to deliver high-quality intelligence that supports service development and improved patient outcomes across the network.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Educated to Masters Level or equivalent experience
- PhD in numerate subject
- Relevant professional registration (e.g. UK Council for Health Informatics Professions)
- Project Management Qualification (e.g. Prince 2)
- Service / Quality improvement qualification
Experience
- Experience within a Health Informatics environment. Significant experience within an information environment
- Working with large data warehouses utilising a number of data sources and ETL processes.
- Contributing towards analytics that are aligned to Population Health/ Prudent Health Care and VBHC
- Experience of information analysis and reporting
- Strong knowledge in applicable technology e.g. Excel and SQL skills
- Good understanding of statistics and their application in a business environment
- Experience with NHS information systems Knowledge of Operational research methods and application
- Knowledge and understanding of mandatory reporting requirements, NHS data standards and definitions Business Intelligence tools
- Knowledge of NHS administrative systems.
- Experience of Developing & contributing to Warehouse Design
- Experience of NLP, AI and Machine Learning

- Advanced IT and analytical skills. Advanced knowledge of IT tools/systems such as SQL, data cubes, Qlik and other BI tools and web technologies
- Track record of delivering high quality work in demanding timescales
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
