Java Backend Engineer - Greenfield Fintech | London (Hybrid)

Multiple levels available: Associate to Senior Lead

Salary: £90,000 - £140,000 + bonus

Location: London - on-site

We're partnering with a high-growth fintech accelerator embedded within a major financial services organisation. They're not modernising legacy systems or patching old code. They're building brand-new consumer fintech products from the ground up, with serious investment, a significant product roadmap, and real engineering ownership from day one.

The Tech Stack:

• Java / Kotlin (JVM ecosystem)

• Spring / Spring Boot

• Microservices architecture

• AWS / GCP cloud-native platforms

• Docker & Kubernetes

• Messaging & streaming systems (Kafka etc.)

• Observability & distributed tracing tooling

What You'll Be Doing:

• Designing and building resilient, distributed systems at scale

• Contributing to architectural direction across greenfield platforms

• Writing clean, secure, production-ready code

• Driving performance, reliability, and zero-downtime delivery

• Working in close-knit, product-led squads alongside product managers and cross-functional engineering teams

• At senior and lead levels - mentoring engineers and helping shape engineering culture as the organisation grows

What We're Looking For:

• Strong backend engineering experience in Java or Kotlin

• Solid understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and cloud environments

• A genuine sense of ownership - you care about what you ship

• Comfortable in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where things are still being built

• Collaborative, pragmatic, and focused on continuous improvement
