We are building Syndi, a platform that enables people to play UK's national lottery in a group setting -- making it more affordable and increasing winning potential. UKNL is a game played by over 20 million people UK residents each month.

We are looking for a Head of /VP Engineering to lead the technical direction of the company.

This role is ideal for a Staff or Principal Engineer who wants to take their career to the next level / ultimately step into an executive leadership role while remaining deeply technical.

This is an equity-based role for someone excited about our vision as well as building a high-impact product and company from the ground up.

Role

You will lead our engineering function while remaining hands-on with architecture and critical parts of the codebase.

The role is roughly 50% leadership and 50% individual contributor.

Responsibilities include:

• Owning the overall system architecture and technical strategy
• Leading and mentoring a small engineering team
• Conducting code reviews and architecture reviews
• Ensuring high standards of engineering quality, scalability, and security
• Collaborating closely with leadership on product roadmap and technical priorities
• Hiring and developing early engineering talent
• Solving complex product and infrastructure challenges quickly
• Establishing engineering processes and best practices

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience building production software systems.
• 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience in Fintech, E-commerce, iGaming, or lottery / betting domain
• Strong expertise in software architecture and system design
• Experience building and operating production systems at scale
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment
• Ability to solve ambitious technical problems with speed and pragmatism
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical discussions
