We are looking for an experienced Splunk Engineer with strong expertise in Splunk Enterprise, ITSI, and Kubernetes/OpenShift observability. The ideal candidate will build scalable monitoring solutions, drive service health insights, and optimize performance across hybrid cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
Splunk Architecture & Operations
- Design, deploy, and manage Splunk Enterprise and ITSI for hybrid Kubernetes/OpenShift environments.
- Onboard large‐scale data using HEC, Universal Forwarders, and Deployment Servers.
- Align data with CIM standards and enforce RBAC, indexing, retention, and cost guardrails.
ITSI Service Management
- Build service decompositions and service trees.
- Develop KPIs, multi‐KPI thresholds, NEAP policies, glass tables, deep dives, and service health scores.
OpenShift/Kubernetes Observability
- Create executive and operations dashboards focusing on:
- Cluster health (API/etcd), node readiness, pod restart trends
- Network/storage errors, quota usage, bursting patterns
- Capacity metrics and noisy‐neighbor detection
Search & Platform Performance
- Tune Splunk search performance, workload rules, concurrency, DMA, summary indexing, and scheduling hygiene.
Alerting & Integrations
- Implement alerting, enrichment, routing to ITSM/ChatOps, suppression windows, and automated runbooks.
Data Governance & Security
- Define/maintain ingest governance: allow/deny lists, PII handling, TLS, token management.
- Establish data quality SLAs and index/role mapping practices.
Integrations & Pipelines
- Integrate OpenTelemetry, Prometheus exporters, Fluentd/Fluent Bit/Vector, Kafka, CMDB/ITSM, and AIOps/ML-based anomaly detection.
Required Skills
Splunk Enterprise
- Strong SPL expertise, CIM alignment, lookups/macros, saved searches.
- Search performance optimization, RBAC/index design, retention strategies.
Splunk ITSI
- Hands‐on experience with service trees, KPIs, adaptive thresholds, NEAP tuning.
- Building glass tables, deep dives, and Service Analyzer configurations.
Kubernetes/OpenShift Observability
- Understanding of control-plane metrics, kube events/logs, cluster workload correlation.
- Experience with capacity planning, node/network/storage troubleshooting.
Data Pipelines & Collectors
- Experience with OTLP/OpenTelemetry, Prometheus scraping.
- Fluentd/Fluent Bit/Vector, Kafka (TLS), HEC/UF/DS onboarding.
Reliability & SLO Engineering
- Familiarity with golden signals, rollout/rollback health checks, SLO/KPI mapping.
- Ability to build executive and operations dashboards.
Performance & Cost Optimization
- Experience with summary indexing, DMA, schedule optimization, license/cost guardrails.
Security & Compliance
- TLS/mTLS, token/cert hygiene, PII controls, audit readiness.
Automation & Integrations
- ITSM/ChatOps routing, runbook automation, CMDB enrichment, webhooks/AIOps integrations.
