SQL Server Database Engineer

Job Location: London (Hybrid - 3 days in the office)

We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Engineer with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, Axway integration platforms, and UNIX environments. The candidate will be responsible for the design, administration, performance tuning, and support of SQL Server databases that integrate with Axway-based Middleware and operate within UNIX ecosystems. The role requires close collaboration with application, infrastructure, and integration teams to ensure high availability, security, and optimal performance of database systems

Database Administration & Engineering

  • Design, install, configure, and manage Microsoft SQL Server databases (On-Prem/Cloud if applicable).
  • Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and capacity planning.
  • Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions (Always On, Replication, Log Shipping, Backups).
  • Manage database upgrades, patching, and migrations.

Axway Integration Support

  • Support and optimize databases used by Axway platforms (B2Bi, SecureTransport, API Gateway, or related modules).
  • Work closely with integration teams to ensure efficient data exchange between Axway and Back End SQL Server databases.
  • Troubleshoot data flow issues, performance bottlenecks, and integration failures related to Axway DB interactions.

UNIX Environment Support

  • Work in UNIX/Linux environments for database-related operations and troubleshooting.
  • Write and maintain Shell Scripts for database automation, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with UNIX system administrators for capacity planning and production support.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement database security best practices, including role-based access, encryption, and auditing.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements (eg, SOX, GDPR, ISO where applicable).

Monitoring & Support

  • Monitor database health, availability, and performance using native or third-party tools.
  • Provide L3 production support, root cause analysis, and incident resolution.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022).
  • Proven experience supporting databases integrated with Axway products .
  • Solid working knowledge of UNIX/Linux systems .
  • Expertise in SQL, T SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and performance tuning .
  • Experience with backup, recovery, HA/DR strategies, and database monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of Shell Scripting (Bash/Korn) .

Preferred/Good to Have

  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure SQL, AWS RDS).
  • Knowledge of ETL, data integration, or messaging systems .
  • Familiarity with DevOps concepts, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.
  • Exposure to ITIL processes and enterprise production environments.
