Scrum Master (Insurance industry)

Synechron is looking for a Claims Scrum Master plays a pivotal role in guiding and supporting agile teams responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining claims processes and systems. This position ensures that Scrum practices are followed, fosters collaboration, and removes obstacles to help the team deliver high-quality solutions. An understanding of ideally insurance or complex enterprise transformation in financial services is valued; prior experience as a claims handler or in the insurance industry is not a requirement but would be beneficial for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives
  • Support the team in adhering to Agile principles and Scrum methodology throughout the programme
  • Coach team members, stakeholders, and Product Owners on effective agile practices
  • Identify and remove impediments to the team’s progress, ensuring timely delivery of sprint commitments
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback and iterative development
  • Work closely with Product Owners to maintain and prioritise the product backlog
  • Monitor team performance metrics and report progress to management and programme leadership
  • Foster open communication and collaboration within the Pod and across the wider programme
  • Participate in PI Planning events, supporting cross-team alignment and dependency management
  • Champion best practices in agile delivery and support the adoption of new tools or ways of working
  • Ability to slice Feature requirements into smaller deliverables to enable sprint success and deliver business outcomes
  • Ensure appropriate challenge the client on new feature and defect classifications.

Essential Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Scrum Master — 10+ years’ experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role within large, complex programmes. Ideally insurance.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum frameworks; experience operating within SAFe or a comparable scaled Agile structure
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in financial services, insurance, or a complex regulated industry is desirable but not essential — strong candidates from other enterprise sectors will be considered
  • Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM, or SAFe Scrum Master) is required; SAFe Advanced Scrum Master (SASM) is desirable
  • Resilient under pressure — escalates clearly and constructively rather than absorbing problems
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills to ensure appropriate escalation and client challenge.

Location and Working Hours

This role is hybrid with 3 days per week working from the client’s London office and 2 days remotely. Flexibility is required for major client events such as PI Planning, which will require full on-site attendance.
