As Database Administration Team Manager, you'll lead our expert DBA team in designing, optimising and managing a complex hybrid data environment spanning cloud native and on premises systems.
You'll ensure our databases are secure, scalable and future ready-supporting Synectics' critical products and services while driving innovation through automation and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do Leadership & Team Management- Lead, coach, and develop a high performing Database Administration team.
- Set clear priorities, performance metrics, and ensure on time, on budget delivery.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Oversee cloud native and hybrid database systems to meet business goals.
- Direct cloud migration and optimisation strategies, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
- Manage licensing costs and database system budgets effectively.
- Guarantee database availability, integrity, and compliance with internal and external standards
- Maintain robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans.
- Ensure adherence to ISO27001 and internal governance frameworks.
- Drive automation and CI/CD integration for database and schema management.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimise workflows and costs.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and up to date data models.
- Collaborate across teams to support audits, incident management, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage external vendor relationships and advocate for the team's needs within Synectics.
- Proven experience as a Database Administration Manager or Team Lead, managing multi discipline teams.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strategic thinker with a passion for innovation, automation, and data integrity.
- Expertise in relational and non relational databases, including performance tuning and optimisation.
- Solid understanding of database security, modelling, and recovery practices.
- Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
Experience with some of the following would be highly beneficial:
- Databases: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle MySQL, ElasticSearch
- Cloud Platforms: AWS (or similar)
- Tools: ERWin, CI/CD pipelines, JIRA, TopDesk
- Data Management: Data Warehouse / Data Lake / Lakehouse
- Backup, monitoring, and logging systems
Due to the nature of our work, candidates must:
- Hold (or be eligible to obtain) Security Check (SC) clearance
- Be a UK national or meet 5 year UK residency criteria
