DV Cleared VMware SME - Secure Infrastructure | Outside IR35

We are looking for an experienced DV-cleared VMware Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the design, implementation, and optimisation of virtualisation services in a secure UK public-sector environment.

This is an opportunity to bring your specialist VMware knowledge to a high-assurance infrastructure environment, supporting secure services and working closely with technical teams and stakeholders across a major UK account.

The role combines hands-on technical delivery with architecture, infrastructure optimisation and service improvement. You'll help ensure virtualisation platforms remain secure, reliable and performant while contributing to infrastructure projects and technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist VMware expertise across the design, implementation, management and optimisation of virtualisation services.

• Support the operation, performance, availability and reliability of infrastructure platforms.

• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and virtualisation issues, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.

• Contribute to infrastructure projects, technical designs and implementation activities.

• Work with technical teams and stakeholders to understand requirements and develop appropriate infrastructure solutions.

• Identify opportunities to improve platform performance, resource utilisation and operational efficiency.

• Support the implementation of infrastructure best practices, standards and processes.

• Maintain technical documentation, procedures, policies and reports.

• Ensure solutions are delivered in line with relevant security requirements and standards for high-assurance environments.

Essential Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with VMware virtualisation technologies and infrastructure services.

• Proven experience in infrastructure technology management, implementation and troubleshooting.

• Experience supporting the design, delivery or optimisation of enterprise virtualisation environments.

• Ability to investigate technical issues and maintain infrastructure performance and availability.

• Experience working with technical teams and stakeholders to deliver infrastructure solutions.

• Understanding of secure infrastructure environments, relevant technical standards and security requirements.

• Strong communication, problem-solving and technical documentation skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working within UK public-sector, defence or other highly regulated environments.

• Knowledge of security policies, standards and frameworks used in high-security environments.

• Microsoft technologies, particularly Windows Server, identity and access management.

• Relevant VMware, Microsoft or infrastructure certifications.

• Security certifications such as CISSP or CISM.

• Knowledge of TOGAF or other architecture frameworks.
