Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer

Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic IT Department. Our Infrastructure Operations Team supports a diverse and complex environment, including over 7,000 client machines, 300+ servers, 1,600+ Cisco LAN devices and 220+ wide area network links.

As part of the IT Infrastructure Operations team, you will play a lead role in the administration and support of our extensive network and server estate, ensuring the reliability, security and performance of mission-critical enterprise IT systems. This role places a particular emphasis on networking and connectivity, where your expertise will help optimise and evolve our LAN, WLAN and WAN infrastructure across the organisation.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a highly experienced and technically skilled individual with a proven track record in networking and enterprise infrastructure solutions. The ideal candidate will bring advanced competence in configuring and maintaining Cisco network equipment with the ability to investigate, diagnose and resolve complex LAN / WLAN / WAN issues, alongside experience in at least three of the following areas:

  • Cisco certifications such as CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) are highly desirable
  • Experience in designing, implementing and supporting large-scale network infrastructures across multiple sites
  • Strong knowledge of Storage Area Networks and backup systems
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of Microsoft platforms including Exchange Server, Active Directory, SharePoint and Windows Server OS
  • Experience in developing and maintaining IT disaster recovery and business continuity solutions
  • Excellent and demonstrable automation skills (PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Experience implementing and managing servers in clustered VMware or Hyper-V virtualised environments
  • Strong understanding of IT security, particularly within network and perimeter security
  • Experience implementing and managing cloud-based platforms and services such as Azure, AWS or Google
  • Experience with Cisco Unified Communications VOIP platforms

Our team supports the full range of infrastructure solutions, but networking excellence is at the heart of what we do. Flexibility and adaptability across a broad technology set is essential.

About you

You will be a disciplined, solutions-focused thinker capable of working under pressure in a high-output environment. Self-motivation, effective prioritisation, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are key.

We’re seeking someone with:

  • A passion for networking technologies and enterprise-scale connectivity solutions, combined with fantastic energy and a positive, can-do approach
  • Leadership skills, including mentoring other Infrastructure Engineers, sharing best practice, and guiding the delivery of network-related projects and technical solutions
  • The ability to oversee workloads, ensuring incidents, tasks and projects—particularly those involving network infrastructure—are delivered to the highest standards

This is a great opportunity for a technically skilled leader with strong networking expertise looking to make an impact in a challenging and rewarding environment.
