Job Title: Principal Engineer - Data Platform
Job Description
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to join our Data Platform team, where you will be pivotal in managing systems and infrastructure that integrate into our broader data ecosystem. Your role will ensure our platform remains maintainable and continues to evolve technically to meet our customers' needs. You will also work closely with third-party partners to ensure the technical success of collaborative projects, aligning them with our requirements.
Responsibilities
- Act as a technical leader across multiple teams to solve complex technical problems, particularly regarding integration and platform adoption.
- Possess expert-level experience with relevant technologies, including architecture, capabilities, and integration within a wider data platform ecosystem.
- Build web-based applications, support micro-services, and deploy them in a cloud environment with a focus on data platform infrastructure.
- Lead and support other teams' migration efforts by providing technical guidance and platform solutions.
- Serve as a technical authority on complex platform projects and implementations.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with teams to scale engineering initiatives and platform adoption.
- Work with technical leadership teams to guide the technical evolution of the platform and its integration with broader applications.
- Apply modern software engineering principles, from test automation to architectural principles, in data platform development.
- Develop resilient, scalable, and secure data platform solutions.
- Recognise the importance of collaboration in enabling other teams to adopt new platform capabilities.
Essential Skills
- Expert knowledge of AWS and related services such as Lambda, ECS, and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency in using CloudFormation and CDK for infrastructure configuration.
- Experience with TypeScript, React, NodeJS, and NestJS for web and API development.
- Strong background in Back End services using C# and Python.
- Experience with data stores including Redshift, DynamoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and S3.
- Expertise in cloud-based data platform technologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a technical leader, driving and understanding requirements and leading teams to design technical solutions.
- Background in software engineering with a transition into data engineering or data leadership.
- Experience in the oil and gas - data and analytics industry is advantageous but not required.

Work Environment
The role requires 2 days onsite in Edinburgh, providing a collaborative space to engage with team members. Our tech stack includes a variety of tools and technologies, with services deployed to AWS and web products developed using TypeScript and React. We value a resilient and scalable approach to our data platform solutions, emphasising test automation and secure development practices.
