Salary: £35,000 DOE plus 20% shift allowance
We’re looking for a Data Centre Engineer to join a leading organisation in Acton, working within a small team supporting Data Centre operations for a prestigious end client.
This company is an experienced technology integrator providing end-to-end connectivity and managed services across data centres, offices, and critical environments. Its solutions include structured cabling, smart systems, and IT services, all delivered with a focus on quality, innovation, and sustainability to help organisations enhance infrastructure and digital transformation
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and follow change control procedures for all data centre activities
- Respond to incidents, troubleshoot issues, and escalate where required
- Track and manage IT assets, equipment, and inventory records
- Supervise and escort third-party vendors working within the data centre
- Install, relocate, and decommission IT hardware and structured cabling in line with data centre standards
- Update technical documentation, inventories, and asset records accurately
- Complete service requests within agreed service levels (SLAs)
- Follow all health & safety, security, and quality procedures at all times
- Support the day-to-day operation of the data centre, including maintenance, installations, and changes
- Assist with data centre improvement and infrastructure projects
- Perform basic server configuration tasks such as iDRAC and iLO setup
- Carry out fault finding, patching, racking and stacking activities
- Support major infrastructure works including power shutdowns and hardware replacements
- Manage and maintain structured cabling across racks and data halls
- Work closely with facilities teams to support efficient and reliable data centre operations
Candidate Requirements:
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience working in a data centre or similar critical environment
- Experience with hardware installations, decommissioning, patching, and structured cabling
- Understanding of IT infrastructure technologies and networking fundamentals
- Experience using ticketing or service management systems
- Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach to work
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working under pressure in high-availability environments
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Flexible to work shift patterns where required
- Competent using Microsoft Office and service delivery tools
Desirable Experience:
- Knowledge of DCIM tools and data centre standards
- Familiarity with ServiceNow, Remedy, or similar ticketing platforms
- Experience supporting critical infrastructure projects and power-related activities
