We are seeking a Mechanical Sales Engineer to join a growing team. This role is responsible for producing design and solution requirements for multiple sales proposals and bid estimations, demonstrating strong technical understanding of the solutions offered. You will collaborate across bid plans through effective communication and leverage internal teams and supply chain support to ensure customer timelines are met efficiently.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Remain up to date with health, safety, and environmental performance relative to industry benchmarks to support credibility with current and prospective clients, and ensure safety considerations are embedded within tender processes.
- Work with senior management to identify and convert opportunities into profitable contracts, aligned with business strategy.
- Use technical expertise, market intelligence, and customer insight to develop bid-winning strategies that differentiate the organisation from competitors.
- Take ownership of assigned bids, including early engagement with supply chain stakeholders where required to meet timescales.
- Ensure accuracy of cost estimates through detailed review processes, including peer reviews with internal teams and senior management. Present final cost and sales values, highlighting risks and opportunities.
- Maintain accurate sales pipeline data following bid submission using internal management systems.
- Manage the production of bid submissions, ensuring:
- Key differentiators are clearly communicated
- Documentation is completed on time
- Responses fully address customer requirements and tender documentation
- Demonstrate strong understanding of relevant software and utilise technology to improve processes, communication, and collaboration.
- Build and maintain a broad internal and external network to support tendering and business development objectives.
- Manage third-party and supply chain relationships to ensure cost-effective and efficient service delivery.
- Identify opportunities to gain competitive advantage through service excellence.
- Lead handover of successful bids to delivery teams, ensuring full knowledge transfer and understanding of design, supplier inputs, and client requirements.
- Act as a subject matter expert, supporting project teams with technical guidance where required.
- Gather and share customer feedback, staying informed on market trends to support service development.
- Ensure effective use of internal communication systems, including email management and document control.
- Represent the organisation at industry events and in client interactions.
- Uphold company values and maintain professionalism with all stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection and information security requirements in line with company policies.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience within an M&E environment preferred, with strong Mechanical knowledge essential.
- Sector experience within data centre environments or related critical infrastructure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
- Strong commercial awareness, including understanding of profit and loss and costing.
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills with a results-driven mindset.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
- Experience contributing to business strategy and process improvement.
- Relevant qualifications aligned to the sector and role requirements.
- Relevant site certifications (e.g. SMSTS, CSCS) where applicable.
- Must hold and maintain required accreditations and certifications for the role.
