Machining Technician Apprentice (CNC Engineering)

Join one of the UK's leading manufacturers of precision rifle barrels and learn a highly specialised engineering trade. Working alongside experienced CNC machinists, you'll develop skills in advanced manufacturing, precision measurement, quality control and CNC machining while earning a nationally recognised qualification.

Role

The apprentice will learn every stage of the manufacturing process, including:

  • Operating CNC lathes
  • Machine set-up
  • Measuring components using precision equipment
  • Reading engineering drawings
  • Deburring and finishing parts
  • Recording inspection data
  • Maintaining machinery
  • Health & Safety procedures
  • Lean manufacturing
  • Supporting experienced machinists
  • Learning production planning and workflow

The successful apprentice will gradually take responsibility for producing high-quality precision engineered components.

Training

You will attend Solihull College & University Centre (Woodlands Campus) once a week during term time. 

You will also be visited in your workplace by an Engineering Assessor every 6 to 8 weeks to pick up the work-based evidence and prepare you for the End Point Assessments at the end of the apprenticeship.

Successful completion could lead to a permanent position as a CNC Machinist with opportunities to progress into CNC programming, process improvement, quality inspection, production planning or supervisory roles.

Monday - Thursday: 7.30am - 4.30pm and Friday: 7.30am - 1.30pm. Overtime may be available depending on business requirements.
