Senior 3D Environment Artist
PC Games | Unity
Quick Note About Compensation
This role is based on a revenue-share model, instead of a fixed monthly salary.
We are a small independent studio currently developing our first PC titles for Steam. Our collaboration model is simple and transparent:
You contribute to the project →
The game launches →
You receive your agreed share of the game revenue
This is not a co-founder position and does not include large equity. It is a clear, fair, and structured collaboration model for experienced artists who enjoy building games within a focused and agile indie team.
About Us
We are TINK TEAM LTD, a UK-based technology company and independent game development studio.
We are currently developing multiple mobile-ready PC game projects in parallel, with a strong focus on high-quality 3D gameplay, scalable production pipelines, and modern Unity workflows.
Our projects require strong visual identity, optimized environments, and clear art direction. For this reason, we are looking for an experienced Senior 3D Environment Artist who can take ownership of the environment art direction and production quality of one of our games.
Role Overview
As a Senior 3D Environment Artist, you will be responsible for shaping and executing the environment art direction of one project, from early visual exploration to final in-engine presentation.
You will work closely with developers, 3D artists, designers, and project leads to create visually strong, optimized, and gameplay-friendly environments.
This is a hands-on senior role. You will both create environment assets yourself and help guide the overall visual quality, structure, and production pipeline of the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the visual direction for the game environments
- Create moodboards, reference boards, style guides, and visual direction materials
- Design and build game-ready environments from blockout to final polish
- Create modular environment kits, props, set-dressing assets, terrain elements, and scene details
- Establish efficient environment workflows using modular assets, trim sheets, decals, and reusable kits
- Work inside Unity to assemble scenes, apply materials, lighting, and optimize final presentation
- Ensure strong composition, readability, scale, and gameplay clarity in all environments
- Collaborate with developers to balance visual quality and performance
- Optimize environments using LODs, batching, material management, draw-call control, and scene structure
- Support lighting, shaders, materials, and atmosphere for final in-engine quality
- Review and guide environment assets created by other contributors when needed
- Help maintain consistency across all environment assets and levels
- Support cinematic shots, gameplay trailers, screenshots, and marketing visuals when required
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in 3D game art or environment art
- Strong portfolio showing real-time, game-ready environments
- Experience shipping at least one commercial game or high-quality playable project
- Strong knowledge of Unity environment workflows
- Good understanding of lighting, materials, shaders, composition, and scene building
- Solid understanding of optimization for real-time games
- Experience creating modular environments, props, terrain, and set dressing
- Ability to take ownership of environment quality from concept to final in-engine result
- Comfortable working in a small indie team with flexible production needs
- Good communication skills and the ability to give and receive feedback clearly
Nice to Have
- Experience with Unity URP or HDRP
- Strong skills in modular kits, trim sheets, decals, and environment pipelines
- Experience with stylized, semi-realistic, or optimized PC game environments
- Knowledge of terrain tools, vegetation workflows, and scene optimization
- Ability to create paintovers, visual guides, or simple concept direction
- Experience with VFX, particles, fog, atmosphere, or cinematic presentation
- Familiarity with Cinemachine and Timeline
- Prior experience leading or mentoring other artists
- Experience working on indie games or small production teams
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who can bring both artistic vision and production discipline.
The ideal candidate is not only a strong 3D environment artist, but also someone who understands how to build environments that work well in real-time gameplay. You should be comfortable thinking about visual quality, performance, player readability, and production efficiency at the same time.
You should enjoy working in a small, focused team where your contribution has a direct impact on the final game.
