Software Engineer

Software Medical Device contract South West - £500 outside

My client is looking for a Senior Software Contractor to join a high-performing innovation and product development consultancy specialising in the medical device and consumer health sectors.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineer with a strong background in medical device development and safety-critical embedded systems to work on cutting-edge projects that genuinely make a difference

🔹 The Role

You’ll be joining a talented multidisciplinary team, helping to deliver exceptional solutions across complex medical and healthcare products. This role requires strong technical expertise, collaboration across project teams, and the ability to produce structured, compliant documentation.

🔹 Essential Experience

• Medical software development

• Strong experience developing safety-critical software to EN 62304 and ISO 14971 standards

• Excellent embedded software development skills in C/C++

• Experience developing for embedded Linux or RTOS environments

• Strong understanding of communication protocols including I2C, UART, SPI, Bluetooth LE

• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and design principles

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

• Ability to produce clear, structured, compliant documentation

🔹 Desirable Experience

• Consultancy environment experience

• Secure coding principles and standards such as IEC 81001-5

• Integration with healthcare systems such as DICOM, HL7, EHRs

• Qt GUI development

• Embedded systems experience (STM32, CubeMX etc.)

• Test frameworks and validation systems

• Embedded operating systems such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, Embassy

• Linux image development including Yocto and uBoot

• Git, Jira, Confluence or equivalent tools

• Comfortable working across hardware through to application logic
