Senior Power BI Consultant / Manager

Location: Liverpool (2 days onsite per week)
Contract: 3 months rolling
Rate: Up to £435 per day
Clearance: None required

Overview

We're looking for a Senior Power BI Consultant / Manager to join a growing analytics function, combining hands-on delivery expertise with team capability building.

This is not a pure reporting role - you'll play a key part in uplifting the team, embedding best practices, and driving long-term self-sufficiency, while continuing to deliver high-quality Power BI solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Power BI delivery: from data preparation and modelling through to polished, user-friendly dashboards
  • Coach and mentor analysts through structured training, 1-2-1 support, and hands-on guidance
  • Translate technical concepts into clear, accessible guidance for less experienced team members
  • Identify capability gaps and define practical upskilling and training approaches
  • Provide guidance on migration from Qlik to Power BI (where relevant)
  • Champion best practices across:
    • Data modelling
    • DAX development
    • Visual design
    • Governance
  • Work independently with stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Create clear documentation to support knowledge sharing and reuse

Core Experience (Must Have)

  • Extensive hands-on Power BI experience in production environments (end-to-end delivery)
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Power Query (M) for data transformation
    • DAX, with a focus on scalable, best-practice development
  • Strong data visualisation and UX skills, producing intuitive, business-friendly dashboards
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and Power BI integration
  • Solid SQL skills for working with underlying data sources
  • Proven experience in:
    • Coaching and mentoring technical teams
    • Delivering both structured and ad-hoc training
  • Excellent communication skills - able to explain complex concepts to non-technical users
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to identify gaps and drive improvements independently

Desirable Experience

  • Exposure to Qlik (QlikView/Qlik Sense) or experience with migration to Power BI
  • Experience defining Power BI standards, governance, or capability frameworks
  • Experience building custom visuals or advanced dashboard features
