Legacy Core Technical Lead (Infrastructure Engineer / Specialist Engineer)

Security Clearance: Current active SC clearance required

Contract Duration: ASAP to 31/03/2027

Day Rate: £500 - £600 Per Day (Inside IR35)

Location: Hybrid Working - travel to UK sites as required included West Midlands

We are urgently seeking a UK based Legacy Core Technical Lead/Specialist Infrastructure Engineer who has has previous experience working on Enterprise Integration Services within the government sector.

The Contract Technical Lead sits within a Government & Justice Business Unit, working within the Public Finance & Administration sector on the Enterprise Integration Services (EIS).

The role provides senior technical leadership across the Build and Run teams supporting business-critical government applications and the integration capabilities that connect into major Head of Duty systems.

The Contract Technical Lead provides technical leadership across all Build and Run teams supporting the application estate.

This is a technical leadership role first and foremost. The successful candidate will lead through credibility, influence and collaboration, bringing engineering teams with them as standards, practices and ways of working evolve. They will build trust, coach and challenge constructively, create alignment across teams and help engineers understand not just what good looks like, but why it matters.

The role requires strong hands-on technical experience and sufficient depth to engage directly with engineers, review complex technical approaches, understand code, platforms and delivery pipelines, and support the resolution of difficult technical issues.

Skills required:

  • Accomplished Technical Lead/Infrastructure SME with previous experience working on Enterprise Integration Services within the government sector.
  • Operate at a senior level, and provide technical leadership across the Enterprise Integration Services Core Build and Run teams.
  • Be hands-on enough to get into the detail when needed and have credibility with the engineering teams.
  • Ideally bring previous experience of Government Enterprise Integration Services Core components and already understands the landscape
  • Help put consistent engineering standards and ways of working in place across the teams.
  • Improve the capability of the teams through coaching, challenge and technical leadership rather than doing everything themselves.
  • Keep a wider view across service health, technical risk, technical debt, dependencies and future roadmaps.
  • Drive improvements around security, resilience, automation, reuse and continuous improvement.
  • Create stronger ownership within the teams and help people make good technical decisions independently.
