Engineer Technician Apprentice
Role
Tait Communications is a prominent organisation specialising in critical communications and is currently seeking an Engineering apprentice to join our team. As an apprentice, you will actively participate in various engineering projects, gaining exposure to a diverse range of skills. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will receive mentorship from experienced professionals deeply committed to their craft.
You will be working with our engineers and getting involved with all engineering activities, Based at our Cambridge site. You will also be involved with on call rota to see the full process of the engineering team and what they do.
● Understand General Radio Principles
● Understand major RF performance parameters
● Understand Basic RF Test Equipment
● Basic understanding of the operation of Tait radios at a block level
● Understand fundamentals of Base station site engineering
● Understanding of site power systems and their dimensioning
● Understanding of RF combining and antenna systems Understanding of backhaul methods
● Causes of interference (antenna spacing, adjacent channel, intermodulation and blocking)
● Fundamentals of Radio System types (Conventional, Trunked and Simulcast)
● Understand the fundamentals of TCP/IP networking
This knowledge will aid in the development of skills required as part of your Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering which will include:
● Producing Electrical or Electronic drawing using a CAD system
● Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits
● Assembling and testing electronic circuits
● Locating and diagnosing faults in post-production electronic components and circuits
Training
The practical period is the time dedicated to the development of the knowledge, skills and behaviours for your apprenticeship which includes the following components;
• Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation
Competence)
• Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
• Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support
• Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge).
The apprenticeship will involve attending college during term time.
In year 1, day release is 3 days in-college and with regular work-based assessments conducted by the College Assessor. In Years 2 and 3, day release is 1 day in-college, then into the 4th year is workplace for End Point Assessment stage.
Once qualified in the apprenticeships and learning hands one experience in the business, we will aim to offer you a permanent role within Tait Communications as an Engineer.
