Analytics Engineer

Analytics Engineer - Permanent - Remote - up to £65k per annum

The Opportunity

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-starting Analytics Engineer to join our clients growing Technology & Digital department. In this role, you will bridge the gap between technical data engineering and business-facing insights, playing a pivotal part in evolving our Business Intelligence landscape.

You will join a small, agile team dedicated to promoting data-driven decision-making. Your work will span the entire data lifecycle—from building robust dbt models to crafting engaging visualizations and building custom internal applications.

Key Responsibilities

Dashboard & App Development

  • Innovate & Improve: Proactively identify opportunities to enhance existing dashboards and internal applications.
  • Platform Champion: Act as the subject matter expert for our primary BI tools (Omni and Looker), evangelizing their use across the organization.
  • Custom Solutions: Create new dashboards and custom visualizations that translate complex data into actionable narratives.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Address technical challenges and implement solutions that prioritize efficiency and user satisfaction.

Collaboration & Delivery

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with Business Analysts and department heads to conduct UAT and ensure solutions meet user needs.
  • Technical Synergy: Work alongside the wider engineering team to resolve complex technical hurdles and align on data architecture.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Develop and deliver system training to empower users across the business.

Technical Requirements

  • BI Expertise: Extensive experience in modern BI platform development. Prior experience with Looker or Omni is highly prioritized.
  • Data Modelling: Advanced proficiency in dbt, including the use of unit testing to validate SQL modelling logic.
  • Version Control: Comfortable using GitHub for collaborative development and version control.
  • Cloud Data Warehousing: Hands-on experience with modern warehouses (e.g., BigQuery).
  • Agile Proficiency: Experience working in an Agile environment using Jira to manage workloads and prioritize projects independently.

Soft Skills & Mindset

  • Communication: Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and build strong internal networks.
  • Analytical Thinking: A natural problem-solver who can quickly grasp new technologies and methodologies.
  • Commercial Awareness: A balanced understanding of both the business and technical domains.

Work Environment

Remote-first culture. Expectation for 1 or 2 visits a quarter to the office in the South East.
