R&D Tax Associate | Tech-Focused Practice

R&D Tax Associate | Tech-Focused Practice

Salary: £45,000 - 60,000 DOE

Fully Remote - UK

A fast-growing, technology-led practice is looking for an R&D Tax Associate to join its remote UK team.

This is a great opportunity for someone with strong R&D tax experience who enjoys working directly with innovative, high-growth companies, founders, technical teams and finance stakeholders. You’ll manage R&D claims end-to-end, produce robust technical narratives, prepare compliant submissions, and support clients operating across the UK technology and innovation economy.

The role

You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of R&D tax relief claims, working closely with clients to understand their projects, gather evidence, analyse costs and prepare high-quality reports and submissions.

Alongside R&D tax relief, you’ll also gain exposure to broader advisory and compliance areas over time, including EIS/SEIS, EMI/share schemes, company valuations and wider tax matters.

This role would suit someone who is confident working independently, comfortable speaking with clients and motivated by improving how tax advisory work is delivered through better systems, workflows and technology.

Key responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing R&D tax relief claims from start to finish
  • Leading client calls with founders, finance leaders and technical teams
  • Preparing technical narratives, cost analysis and R&D reports
  • Completing R&D Additional Information Forms and related tax documentation
  • Preparing corporation tax computations and returns with relevant R&D inputs
  • Handling HMRC correspondence where required
  • Supporting EMI, ERS, EIS/SEIS and wider advisory work
  • Carrying out technical research and drafting clear written advice
  • Helping improve internal templates, processes and knowledge systems

What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years’ experience in R&D tax relief within a UK tax practice or R&D specialist firm
  • Strong understanding of the full R&D claim process
  • Experience identifying qualifying activities, analysing costs and preparing compliant claims
  • Strong written, numerical and technical accuracy
  • Confidence communicating complex tax matters clearly to clients
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines independently
  • ATT/CTA pathway, or ACCA/equivalent with willingness to pursue relevant tax qualifications
  • Experience supporting start-ups, technology businesses or innovation-led companies would be advantageous

This is a fully remote, UK-based role. Candidates must have substantial long-term homeworking experience within a UK tax or accounting practice. Experience gained during Covid-19 restrictions is not sufficient.

Why this role?

This is an opportunity to join a modern, tech-enabled professional services firm that is building a differentiated approach to tax advisory work. You’ll work with ambitious, innovation-led clients while developing your technical expertise in a role that combines client interaction, judgement, problem-solving and process improvement.
