My client, a well established organisation in the South West, is currently investing heavily in modernising its data and digital capabilities. As part of this wider transformation, they are looking to appoint a Database Engineer who will play a key role in helping the business unlock greater value from its operational, environmental and commercial data.
This is a hands on engineering role focused on building reliable and scalable data solutions. The successful candidate will work on modernising legacy systems, developing robust data pipelines, and helping the organisation turn complex and unstructured datasets into meaningful insights that support operational efficiency and real-time decision-making.
You will work closely with IT operations teams and wider business stakeholders, so strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical solutions into business outcomes will be important.
Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of legacy databases and systems to modern cloud or on-premise data platforms
- Design, build and maintain ETL pipelines to ingest and process large datasets from multiple sources
- Develop efficient processes for data collection, transformation and management
- Collaborate with technical and operational teams to identify opportunities to improve processes through better use of data
- Ensure strong data governance, quality and security across data platforms
- Support analytics, reporting and machine learning initiatives by providing clean, structured data
- Contribute to the wider digital transformation programme and continuous improvement of data capabilities
Skills and Experience
- Experience working as a Data Engineer or Database Engineer in a commercial environment
- Strong SQL expertise and experience developing data pipelines
- Experience with ETL frameworks, data modelling and working with complex datasets
- Familiarity with modern cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure
- Understanding of database migration, integration and data warehousing best practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams
