IT Field Service Engineer


Location: Lockington, Derbyshire
Contract: 6-month contract with the opportunity to go permanent



About the Role


We are seeking an experienced IT Field Service Engineer to support internal users across a geographically dispersed group of sites. You will be responsible for maintaining computer systems and networks, installing and configuring equipment, diagnosing hardware and software faults, and resolving technical issues both remotely and in person.
This is a customer-facing field role, requiring regular travel between sites and a proactive approach to delivering excellent IT support.



Key Responsibilities


  • Provide field-based IT support across multiple sites, covering desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, applications and meeting room equipment.

  • Build strong relationships with internal customers, proactively identifying issues and opportunities for service improvement.

  • Install, configure and maintain hardware, software and workplace technology.

  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, application and network issues, resolving incidents within agreed SLAs.

  • Monitor systems and networks to identify potential problems and take appropriate action.

  • Support the rollout of new applications, equipment and sites, as well as site decommissioning.

  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and ensure incidents are followed through to resolution.

  • Assist with more complex technical tasks, including cabling and equipment replacement.

  • Work collaboratively with IT colleagues and third-party providers to deliver effective support.

  • Adhere to company policies, processes and health and safety requirements.


Essential Skills & Experience


  • Strong experience supporting desktops, laptops and workplace IT equipment.

  • Good knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows 11.

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration and support.

  • Experience with application support and software installations.

  • Knowledge of servers, LAN/WAN networking and cloud-hosted solutions.

  • Experience supporting mobile devices across iOS and Android.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) for building and deploying desktops and laptops.

  • Understanding of firewalls, proxies and antivirus software.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to manage workloads, prioritise incidents and work independently.

  • A proactive, flexible and solution-focused approach.

  • Full UK/EU driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.


Desirable Skills


  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification or knowledge of ITIL practices.

  • Experience with Sophos, Mimecast, PDQ, Logitech and PowerShell.

  • Familiarity with service desk ticketing systems such as ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus.

  • Experience with Excalibur software.


Role Expectations


  • Predominantly field-based, with regular travel to sites across the business.

  • Ability to respond to site issues at short notice.

  • Flexibility to travel early or late when required.

  • Occasional overnight stays may be necessary due to travel distances.

  • A professional, customer-focused attitude and commitment to delivering high-quality IT support.
