Managing Consultant

Managing Consultant – Professional Services Operations & Technology

Location: UK (Remote with occasional London travel)

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist consulting firm supporting professional services organisations and investors with growth, operational improvement and value creation. The firm is a senior, hands-on team known for high standards and deep expertise.

As a Managing Consultant, you will lead client engagements, shape technology-enabled solutions, contribute to business development, and help grow a developing tech enablement practice. This role suits someone who blends traditional consulting capability with real operational understanding of how a consultancy works day to day.

Within 12–18 months, you will be leading engagements independently, generating follow-on work, producing thought leadership and building a small pipeline of your own.

Key Responsibilities

Client Delivery & Advisory

  • Lead client projects end-to-end, including planning, delivery management and executive communication.
  • Advise on technology enablement for professional services firms (PSA, CRM, HRIS, finance systems and emerging AI).
  • Analyse operational performance (KPIs, reporting, delivery processes, resourcing, revenue operations).
  • Translate operational challenges into practical, technology-enabled solutions.
  • Support clients with governance, project financials and management information.
  • Manage scope, commercials, risk and resourcing.

Business Development

  • Contribute to proposals, pricing and shaping new work.
  • Build trusted client relationships to generate sell-on opportunities.
  • Develop your own network and nurture early-stage pipeline.

Internal Development & Thought Leadership

  • Help refine and improve delivery methodologies and frameworks.
  • Play a key role in building the firm's technology enablement offering.
  • Explore how AI can be used in professional services and in internal delivery.
  • Create thought leadership and market-facing insights.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with partners and senior stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior team members as the firm grows.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Strong consulting background with experience in senior operational roles inside a consultancy.
  • Proven ability to lead client engagements and deliver high-quality outputs.
  • Deep understanding of consulting operations (delivery models, commercial processes, project financials).
  • Business-level experience with PSA, CRM, HRIS or finance systems in a professional services context.
  • Ability to design technology-enabled solutions without being a deep technologist.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Highly organised, self-starting and detail-oriented.
  • Interest in industry trends and the future of consulting.

Preferred Experience

  • Value creation, operating model design, operations due diligence or delivery improvement.
  • Experience in tech-enabled change in professional services.
  • Exposure to AI-related initiatives.
  • Experience helping shape or build internal propositions or methodologies.

Cultural Fit

  • Professional, collaborative and grounded.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and shaping evolving work.
  • Committed to high standards without unnecessary formality.
  • Curious and willing to learn quickly — especially in emerging technology areas.

Practical Requirements

  • UK-based with the right to work in the UK.
  • Home-based role with London travel 2–3 times per month.
  • Willingness to travel for client engagements when needed.
