The Role

As an AI Governance Lead, you will be responsible for defining and operationalizing the organization's AI governance strategy to enable responsible, secure, and scalable adoption of AI technologies. Acting as the central authority for AI governance, you will establish frameworks, policies, and controls while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and enterprise objectives. In this role, you will combine strategic leadership with hands-on execution, partnering closely with engineering, data, risk, and business teams to embed governance across the AI lifecycle and ensure effective risk management, compliance, and accountability.

Your responsibilities:

  • Define and implement the enterprise AI governance strategy and operating model.
  • Design and enforce AI policies, standards, and guardrails, including PII, GDPR, and Responsible AI considerations.
  • Establish and lead AI governance forums and decision-making structures.
  • Embed governance checkpoints and controls across the end-to-end AI lifecycle.
  • Ensure appropriate risk, compliance, and safety validation prior to deployment of AI solutions.
  • Own and evolve the Responsible AI framework, including bias detection and fairness controls.
  • Govern AI assets, including models, prompts, and data, ensuring full traceability and auditability.
  • Align AI initiatives with existing data governance standards and enterprise controls.
  • Define audit, documentation, and compliance requirements for AI systems.
  • Drive stakeholder alignment and promote adoption of AI governance practices across the organization.

Your Profile

Essential skills/knowledge/experience:

  • Experience in retail or large-scale enterprise data and AI transformation programmes.
  • Proven experience establishing enterprise governance frameworks across AI, data, or technology domains.
  • Experience setting up AI Centres of Excellence (CoE) or governance operating models.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory, compliance, and audit frameworks.
  • Experience defining and implementing policy-driven governance controls.
  • Strong understanding of the AI/ML lifecycle, including development and productionization.
  • Knowledge of Generative AI concepts, including large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, and agents.
  • Experience implementing AI guardrails and safety mechanisms.
  • Strong understanding of data lineage, classification, and access controls.
  • Strong understanding of data quality and validation within AI use cases.

Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:

  • Experience working with AI governance models in regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of model governance, prompt lifecycle management, and integration with data governance.
  • Understanding of ethical AI principles, including bias mitigation and fairness frameworks.
  • Experience leading cross-functional governance forums or committees.
  • Strong stakeholder management across business, legal, and technical teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, including policy definition and executive reporting.
