The Role

As a GCP Data Engineer, you will design scalable data architectures on Google Cloud Platform using services such as BigQuery, Dataflow and Spanner. You will build and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines, perform quality and governance checks, ensure security and compliance, collaborate with cross‐functional teams and proactively monitor and improve data performance. This role requires a strong blend of data engineering expertise, cloud proficiency and problem‐solving capability.

Your responsibilities:

• Design and build scalable data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows and data architectures on GCP.
• Implement data quality, validation and governance processes to ensure reliable and accurate data.
• Develop and maintain code using Python, Java or Scala for data processing and transformation.
• Work with GCP services including BigQuery, Dataflow, Spanner, Cloud Storage and related components.
• Optimise data pipelines and queries for performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross‐functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver end‐to‐end solutions.
• Ensure compliance with data security, privacy and protection standards.
• Document data flows, pipelines and architectures to support transparency and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across data processing workflows.
• Continuously learn and adopt new GCP features, tools and industry best practices.

Your Profile

Essential skills/knowledge/experience:

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java or Scala.
• Strong experience with data processing frameworks such as Apache Beam (Dataflow) and Kafka.
• Hands‐on experience with key GCP services including BigQuery, Dataflow and Spanner.
• Solid understanding of data modelling and database design.
• Experience designing and operating ETL/ELT processes.
• Familiarity with cloud storage solutions and distributed data systems.
• Strong problem‐solving skills in cloud‐scale data engineering environments.
• Understanding of data security, governance and scalability considerations.
• Experience with workflow tools such as Apache Airflow.

Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:

• Experience with additional GCP services such as Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer or Cloud Data Fusion.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and infrastructure‐as‐code concepts.
• Experience with real‐time data streaming architectures.
• Knowledge of modern data governance frameworks.
