Senior User Experience Designer

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior UX Designer with strong domain expertise in pensions and retirement products to lead user‐centred design across complex, regulated financial services journeys. This role will play a critical part in shaping intuitive, compliant, and accessible digital experiences for members, employers, advisers, and internal users.

You will work closely with product management, engineering, compliance, and business stakeholders to translate complex pension concepts into simple, trustworthy, and engaging user experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end‐to‐end UX design for pensions and retirement products, from discovery through delivery
  • Design complex user journeys covering pensions onboarding, contributions, transfers, statements, projections, retirement options, and member self‐service
  • Translate technical and regulatory requirements into clear, user‐friendly interfaces
  • Champion user‐centred design principles across teams and projects

Research & Insight

  • Plan and conduct user research with scheme members, employers, advisers, and internal stakeholders
  • Synthesise qualitative and quantitative insights into actionable design recommendations
  • Use research findings to inform personas, journey maps, and service blueprints

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Partner closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, and Compliance teams
  • Confidently present design rationale to senior stakeholders, including non‐design audiences
  • Influence prioritisation decisions with evidence‐based UX insights

Design Execution

  • Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high‐fidelity designs using industry‐standard tools
  • Contribute to and evolve design systems ensuring consistency, scalability, and accessibility
  • Ensure designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG) and regulatory obligations common to pensions

Governance & Quality

  • Ensure UX outputs align with FCA considerations such as clarity, fairness, and consumer understanding
  • Balance user needs with commercial goals and regulatory constraints
  • Provide design reviews and mentorship for junior and mid‐level designers

Required Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Significant experience as a UX or Product Designer in financial services, with hands‐on pensions domain experience
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Member journeys across accumulation and decumulation
  • Regulatory considerations affecting pensions communication and digital journeys
  • Proven ability to design for complex, data‐heavy, and regulated environments
  • Expertise in UX research, interaction design, and usability testing
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end‐to‐end UX work on complex products

Technical & Design Skills

  • Advanced proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD)
  • Experience working within Agile / Scrum environments
  • Strong information architecture and content hierarchy skills
  • Practical knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design

Desirable

  • Experience working with large pension schemes, platforms, or retirement providers
  • Familiarity with adviser‐facing and employer‐facing pension tools
  • Exposure to service design methodologies
  • Line management or mentoring experience

  • Detail‐oriented while maintaining a strategic, big‐picture view
