AI Product Owner / AI Adoption Lead
AI Product Owner / AI Adoption Lead
- Hybrid (London)
- 12‐month FTC
- £80,000–£95,000 DOE
Role Purpose
This role exists to rapidly build internal AI capability within a planning consultancy that is currently behind the market in AI adoption. You will lead the selection, implementation, and optimisation of AI tools across the business, while shaping long‐term AI strategy and laying the foundations for future internal product development.
This is a greenfield position with full board backing, created to eliminate dependency on expensive external consultants, address internal frustrations with slow AI rollout, and ensure the organisation keeps pace with competitors already innovating in this space.
What You Will Do:
AI Strategy, Implementation & Tooling
- Audit current AI usage and identify immediate opportunities for productivity gains.
- Select and implement tools such as Copilot Pro, Gemini, Claude, ensuring legal and compliance alignment.
- Provide clear, commercially‐driven recommendations on which tools the business should and should not adopt.
- Build an AI roadmap aligned to both operational efficiency and future productisation potential.
Prototyping & Internal Tool Development
- Create lightweight prototypes (e.g., AI‐assisted planning statement drafting, automation for routine planning processes).
- Work independently with minimal engineering support.
- Engage external partners only when necessary and only where you determine ROI justifies it.
- Avoid over‐engineering: focus on practical, cost‐efficient solutions that deliver immediate value.
Governance, Safety & Compliance
- Draft and implement the company’s internal AI policies, including rules on confidentiality, data protection, client privacy, and appropriate AI use.
- Set compliance frameworks that allow hesitant teams to adopt AI confidently.
- Establish safe operating procedures in a regulated professional environment.
Training, Upskilling & Cultural Change
- Build and deliver a training programme for consultants at all levels.
- Provide hands‐on coaching in prompting, safe AI use, and AI‐enabled workflows.
- Support juniors and mid‐levels (the primary user base) while influencing senior leadership.
- Drive cultural adoption in a business that wants faster AI progress but lacks in‐house expertise.
In‐Office Integration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work in the office the majority of the week to embed AI into real workflows.
- Build trusted relationships across teams to understand their pain points and adapt solutions quickly.
- Report progress directly to senior leadership and collaborate with board‐level stakeholders.
Must‐Have Requirements
- Demonstrable experience implementing AI tools inside a business, not just advising.
- Strong practical skills in prompting, workflow optimisation, tool selection, and adoption enablement.
- Experience working independently or in small/startup environments.
- Ability to choose between off‐the‐shelf tools vs lightweight internal builds.
- Deep appreciation for client confidentiality, compliance, and risk, especially in a professional advisory context.
- Comfortable being in-office most of the week to work closely with teams.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience in planning, legal, environmental, regulatory, or other professional services sectors.
- Background in startups, innovation teams, or in-house product/AI roles.
- Familiarity with planning processes (helpful but not required).
- Ability to operate across both strategic and hands-on technical layers.
