Location: South Cambridge 

Employment Type: Full-time | Hybrid working (3 days office/ 2 days remote)

 

About the Company:

Our client is a leading technology company specialising in the design and delivery of advanced electronic-scanning radar systems. They operate as an agile SME, allowing them to rapidly adapt to evolving customer needs. 

The role:

The FPGA Design Engineer will support a major upgrade across the company's radar product range, focused on improving performance and incorporating new capabilities. As part of this, they will take ownership of digital signal processing functions - from modelling and development to testing and deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and architecture of DSP systems.

     

  • Design, develop and verify FPGA code (VHDL or Verilog) using Xilinx toolsets.

     

  • Create supporting software for testing and verification of FPGA logic.

     

  • Conduct and lead field trials to evaluate signal processing performance.

     

  • Document and communicate designs clearly across the engineering team.

     

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).

     

  • Hands-on experience with Xilinx design tools (Vivado), particularly for Zynq MPSoC or similar platforms.

     

  • Proficiency in implementing signal processing algorithms with high-speed I/O in FPGA.

     

  • Solid understanding of high-speed digital circuit design for real-time systems.

     

  • Skilled in simulation and hardware testing, with experience in SystemVerilog or similar tools.

     

  • Software development experience in C/C++, Python or Rust.

     

  • Competent with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and signal generators.

     

  • Strong communication skills for effective hybrid team collaboration.

     

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Background in radar, sonar, or similar sensor systems.

     

  • Familiarity with radar signal processing methods.

     

  • Embedded Linux development in C/C++.

     

  • Experience with Yocto and/or Petalinux build systems.

     

  • Understanding of Xilinx HLS.
