The Company
Our client is a well established technology consultancy SME operating with defence, aerospace, medical and consumer electronics.
The Role
They're seeking a capable and experienced Embedded Software Team Lead to manage a small sub-team (around 4-5 engineers) within a wider multidisciplinary software group. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines project delivery and technical work with line management responsibilities.
You'll contribute directly to embedded software projects while guiding and mentoring team members, shaping best practices, and helping to steer the technology roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
- Line management, mentoring, and development of a small team of engineers
- Project resource planning and performance reviews
- Leading technical delivery across embedded software projects
- Supporting and influencing engineering best practice and software process improvement
- Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver client solutions
The Ideal Candidate:
We're looking for a well-rounded engineer with a strong foundation in embedded systems and a proven ability to support and lead others. You should bring a mix of the following skills and experiences:
- Solid experience in embedded software development, ideally including:
- Bare-metal programming
- RTOS and/or embedded Linux environments
- Exposure to higher-level languages or frameworks
- Bare-metal programming
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Device drivers, DSP, algorithm implementation
- Communications and application-layer protocols
- AI/ML in embedded contexts
- Interfacing between software and electronics
- Device drivers, DSP, algorithm implementation
- Previous leadership or line management experience - whether in formal line roles or by leading small teams/projects
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ideally, experience working in a consultancy or fee-for-service environment with an understanding of project delivery pressures
