Director of Data and AI

Location - Hull, Yorkshire

Our client is a fast-growing broadband and technology provider on a mission to deliver fast, reliable internet to underserved communities. Their customers are at the heart of everything they do, and they are committed to ensuring connectivity reaches the places other providers overlook.

Their next stage of growth depends on transforming data into a strategic asset. They are seeking a Director of Data & AI to lead their data, analytics and AI function – creating a trusted single source of truth, embedding data-driven insight into decision-making, and establishing the foundations for advanced analytics and AI at scale.

If you're motivated by leading high-performing teams, building reliable and explainable data products, and using data and AI to change how a business operates, our client would be keen to learn more about your experience.

Here's why you'll love this role...

• Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary Data & AI team across data engineering, reporting, analytics and data science.

• Own and deliver our client's data strategy, ensuring a single source of truth, governed KPIs and a robust semantic layer powering reporting and insights.

• Shape how the entire organisation uses data – from executive-level KPIs to operational dashboards across Sales, Network, Customer Experience, Finance and Operations.

• Evolve the modern data platform into a stable, scalable and trusted ecosystem with clear data models, environments, testing and monitoring.

• Drive a business-wide data quality and governance agenda, partnering with functional leads to address root causes at source rather than patching downstream symptoms.

• Identify, prioritise and deliver high-value AI and advanced analytics use cases, built on strong data foundations.

• Work closely with IT, systems development and business leadership to align systems, data flows and change processes, reducing breakages and inconsistent reporting.

• Play a visible senior role, regularly engaging with executive and board-level stakeholders on data-driven performance, risk and opportunity.

• Build data literacy across the organisation so teams at all levels can confidently interpret – and challenge – the numbers.

Here's why you'll be great in this role...

You will have:

• Significant experience leading data, analytics or AI teams within complex, high-growth or technology-led environments.

• A track record of maturing a data function from fragmented to trusted, governed and embedded, with a practical understanding of the sequencing required.

• End-to-end experience of data architecture: ingestion, modelling, semantic layers, BI, and integration with core systems such as CRM, finance and operational platforms.

• Hands-on knowledge of modern cloud data platforms, ELT/ETL pipelines and BI tooling, with an understanding of strong engineering practices.

• Demonstrable experience designing and implementing data governance and data quality frameworks with measurable business impact.

• Practical familiarity with AI/ML: identifying valuable use cases, assessing data readiness, working with specialists and ensuring responsible deployment and monitoring.

• Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and effectively engage senior leaders.

• A leadership style grounded in high standards, collaboration and low ego – capable of setting clear direction, protecting team focus, developing talent and bringing in experience where needed.

• Experience partnering with transformation, IT and operational teams to deliver sustainable, adoption-focused change rather than unused dashboards.

The Benefits...

• Competitive pension scheme.

• Health cashback plan covering prescriptions, optical care, therapies, consultations, EAP, remote GP access and discounts.

• 25 days annual leave + bank holidays, plus additional personal days.

• Option to purchase additional annual leave.

• Shopping and lifestyle discount scheme across travel, retail, entertainment, tech and more.

• On-site parking.

• Regular "Lunch & Learn" sessions.

• Social events throughout the year.

• Recognition and employee awards.
