The Role

As Legal Counsel – Employment Law, you will provide expert advice on a wide range of employment matters, from day-to-day HR issues to complex projects and transactions. This includes supporting competitive bids, outsourcing, acquisitions, and restructuring, as well as drafting and negotiating TUPE provisions. You will work closely with HR and business leaders, manage employment disputes and litigation, and advise on trade union and collective consultation matters. The role also involves implementing legal changes, updating policies, and delivering training to ensure compliance and best practice across the organization.

Your responsibilities:

  • Full involvement in transactions and major projects including competitive bids, outsourcing transactions, sales and acquisitions, redundancy and restructuring, drafting and negotiating TUPE provisions.
  • Working with a small team of dedicated and supportive employment law specialists.
  • Advising and working closely with HR team and managers on business-as-usual employment issues (e.g. disciplinary and grievance issues, capability, recruitment, exits, absence issues, pay and benefits).
  • Supporting the management of the Tribunal and Employment litigation process (both in house and with external counsel) and dealing with employee disputes including trade union and employee representative issues and disputes.
  • Implementing changes in employment law and advising on/updating HR policies and documents.
  • Participating in delivery of training to the business and HR team on employment law issues.

Your Profile

Essential skills/knowledge/experience:

  • Proven technical ability.
  • Instinctive commercial awareness.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • The ability to identify and resolve legal risks.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to interact with a dynamic and diverse global workforce.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience, gained in-house and/or in private practice, covering both contentious and non-contentious employment law matters.
  • Excellent academic record and thorough knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Experience in industrial relations and trades unions/collective consultation issues.

Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:

  • Awareness/experience of employment law in Ireland and other EMEA jurisdictions.
  • Some experience of dealing with pensions issues (in relation to transactions).
  • An interest in TUPE and some outsourcing experience, with a knowledge of offshoring issues.
