Network (Infrastructure) Engineer | Leading Global Investment Group

[Up to c. £150k Comp Package | Hybrid Working]

Role Overview

We're supporting a specialist investment and technology firm that is expanding its infrastructure footprint in Europe and building out its networking capability in London for the first time. This hire will become the first network engineer based locally, working closely with a recently appointed Head of Networks in the U.S. and partnering with engineering and research teams across multiple regions. The role sits at the intersection of delivery and operations. You'll contribute to new network build-outs while also supporting an existing low-latency estate that underpins trading and research systems. The environment spans traditional data centre networking, cloud connectivity, automation, and performance-sensitive routing - offering broad technical exposure rather than narrow ownership of a single domain. It's well suited to an engineer who wants to deepen their network fundamentals while gaining hands-on experience across a modern, mixed infrastructure stack...

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design, rollout, and day-to-day operation of network infrastructure supporting trading, research, and corporate systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents across routing, switching, and connectivity layers in both on-prem and cloud environments
  • Support low-latency systems, balancing reliability, performance, and operational resilience
  • Contribute to network-related projects, including new deployments, upgrades, and capacity improvements
  • Work with senior network leadership to standardise configurations, improve tooling, and document network design decisions
  • Engage with engineers and researchers to understand connectivity requirements and translate them into practical network solutions
  • Develop and maintain basic automation or configuration workflows to reduce manual effort and improve consistency
  • Participate in an on-call rota, including occasional out-of-hours support when required

What You'll Bring...

  • A solid academic background, with a degree from a well-regarded university in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Commercial experience in network engineering or infrastructure roles, ideally at a junior-to-mid level (3+ years)
  • A strong grounding in core networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing and switching, and common L2/L3 protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)
  • Hands-on exposure to enterprise networking hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Arista, or Juniper
  • Exposure to multi–data centre or latency-sensitive environments
  • Practical understanding of network security fundamentals, including access controls, segmentation, and firewall concepts
  • Experience working with Linux systems and familiarity with the Linux networking stack
  • An interest in automation and modern NetOps practices, with some exposure to scripting or tooling (e.g. Python, Ansible, Terraform, Git)
  • Curiosity and adaptability - comfortable working across a wide technical surface area without needing to be an expert in every component
  • Willingness to support on-call coverage and flexibility around non-compete timelines where applicable
  • (Preferred) Experience with cloud networking in AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • (Preferred) Familiarity with CI/CD-driven infrastructure workflows or network monitoring platforms
