Position Description:

• We are seeking an experienced Payments Solution Architect with deep hands-on expertise in payments migration, scheme integration, and core payment processing environments.
• This role requires a specialist architect with proven delivery experience across the country and international payment schemes, rather than a generic enterprise architecture background.
• You will play a key role in delivering migration and transformation initiatives, ensuring resilient and compliant payment processing with minimal disruption to live operations.

Key Responsibilities

Payments Migration & Transformation

• Lead architecture workstreams for complex payments migration programmes.
• Define target-state solution designs and migration approaches.
• Minimise risk to live payment processing during migration activities.
• Identify delivery risks early and drive mitigation plans.

Scheme Integration & Processing

Provide architecture leadership across payment schemes including:

• BACS
• Faster Payments (FPS)
• SWIFT
• SEPA

End-to-End Payment Flows

• Design and support components across the payment lifecycle, including:
• Gateway / Connectivity layers (SWIFT, MQ, scheme interfaces)
• Clearing & Settlement flows
• Core Payment Engine / Processing Logic
• Message Transformation & Routing
• Reconciliation & Downstream Processing

Risk, Controls & Assurance

• Ensure solutions align with regulatory and operational control standards.
• Apply frameworks such as CASS and CISA-aligned controls.
• Support audit readiness, governance, and assurance activities.

Legacy Systems & Technical Architecture

• Work within legacy and non-standard environments.
• Reconcile documented versus actual production behaviour.
• Deliver practical solutions within technical constraints.
• Support mainframe-integrated messaging architectures and MT/MX transformation layers.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with SMEs, engineering teams, operations, and programme leadership.
• Document architecture decisions, assumptions, dependencies, and risks.
• Ensure alignment across delivery, architecture, and operations teams.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

• Senior-level experience leading Payments Migration within PMI programmes.
• Strong architecture/design experience in core payments processing systems.
• Deep expertise in client location payment schemes: BACS, FPS.
• Strong international payments experience: SWIFT, SEPA.
• Proven leadership in payments risk, controls, and assurance frameworks.
• Strong understanding of real-world payment lifecycles and production flows.
• Experience with legacy systems and constrained environments.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
