Senior Market Data Engineer London | Systematic Hedge Fund | Permanent
The Client
Tempest Vane Partners is partnering with a highly regarded, technology-driven hedge fund looking to hire a Senior Market Data Engineer into its London-based team.
This is a genuinely high-impact role sitting close to the front office, focused on building the data backbone that traders, quants, and risk teams rely on every day. The environment is fast-paced, engineering-led, and places real value on clean design, performance, and autonomy.
What you’ll be doing:
- Engineering low-latency, high-throughput market data platforms from the ground up
- Owning the full data lifecycle from ingestion and normalisation through to distribution
- Tackling complex challenges around data quality, scale, and resiliency
- Working directly with trading and quant teams to shape how data is consumed and used
- Driving architectural decisions and influencing the technical direction of the platform
What they’re looking for:
- Strong backend engineering experience in C# or Java, ideally in real-time systems
- A deep understanding of market data (feed handlers, tick data, symbology, etc.)
- Experience building distributed systems with a focus on performance and reliability
- Solid database knowledge (SQL and/or NoSQL) and familiarity with messaging systems
- Exposure to cloud and modern DevOps tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines)
Nice to have:
- Experience in a buy-side environment
- Understanding of asset classes such as rates, FX, or derivatives
- An interest in how data drives trading decisions
Why this role stands out:
- Direct impact on trading performance and decision-making
- High level of ownership and autonomy, not a ticket-taking environment
- Collaborative, low-ego culture with strong engineering standards
- Competitive compensation with top-tier benefits
If you’re interested in building critical trading infrastructure in a genuinely engineering-first environment, this is worth a conversation.
