The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Enterprise Architect to help shape and evolve a largeâscale technology landscape supporting millions of customers across consumer, business, and energy trading domains.
This role sits at the heart of Group Technology and plays a critical part in enabling a Net Zero transformation agenda. You will operate at the intersection of business strategy and engineering execution, ensuring investments in Cloud, Data, AI, and IoT are scalable, secure, sustainable, and commercially sound.
Reporting into senior architecture leadership, you will have visibility at Câsuite level while working closely with product, engineering, and delivery teams across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Road mapping
- Define and maintain a 3â5 year architecture âNorth Starâ for specific domains such as Customer Platforms, Trading Systems, or Data & AI.
- Translate business objectives into clear, actionable technology strategies and target architectures.
Architecture Governance
- Lead and participate in Architecture Review Boards, ensuring designs align with group standards, security requirements, and sustainability (âGreenOpsâ) principles.
- Provide pragmatic guidance that balances longâterm architectural integrity with delivery timelines.
Buy vs Build Decisions
- Conduct market and vendor assessments to determine when to adopt SaaS platforms (e.g. CRM, ERP) versus building proprietary capabilities.
- Evaluate commercial impact, risk, and longâterm value of architectural choices.
Legacy Modernisation
- Drive the reduction of technical debt through the decommissioning of legacy platforms.
- Support the migration of workloads to modern, cloudânative, eventâdriven architectures on Microsoft Azure.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, bridging the gap between executive intent and engineering execution.
- Influence funding decisions and gain alignment for foundational technology initiatives across multiple business units.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Architecture Frameworks: Strong experience with TOGAF (v10 or equivalent); practical application within scaled agile environments (e.g. SAFe).
- Cloud & Platforms: Proven experience designing enterprise solutions on Microsoft Azure, including serverless technologies, AKS, and modern data platforms/lakehouses.
- Integration & Architecture Styles: Deep understanding of APIâfirst design, microservices, and eventâdriven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar).
- Security & Regulation: Solid knowledge of GDPR, NIS2, and regulatedâindustry requirements, ideally within energy, retail, or financial services.
- Emerging Technologies: Ability to design architectures that support AI/ML use cases and IoT ecosystems such as smart or connected devices.

Background & Qualifications
- 10+ yearsâ experience in IT, with at least 4 years in a dedicated Architecture role within a large, complex enterprise.
- Experience working in regulated environments such as Energy, Utilities, Retail, or Financial Services is highly desirable.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Architecture or cloud certifications (e.g. TOGAF, Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are advantageous.
