Start: ASAP

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Power BI to join a high‐profile data and analytics team within a leading energy trading environment. This role requires a hands-on expert in Power BI who can work closely with business stakeholders, optimise existing reporting solutions, and deliver high‐quality dashboards at pace.

You will act as a technical leader (not a people manager), collaborating with onshore teams in London and offshore/nearshore teams, ensuring consistent, efficient, and professional delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery

  • Design and build new Power BI dashboards, reports, and analytical solutions.
  • Enhance, refactor, and optimise existing dashboards for performance, usability, and business relevance.
  • Implement strong data modelling principles (star schema, relationships, filter context).
  • Apply best practices in DAX, performance optimisation, and UI/UX.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work directly with traders and business stakeholders to gather requirements.
  • Translate business needs into fit‐for‐purpose technical solutions.
  • Present insights clearly and confidently to non‐technical users.
  • Deliver high‐quality output with minimal iteration.

Proactive Improvement

  • Identify optimisation and automation opportunities.
  • Build POCs to demonstrate improvements and new capabilities.
  • Suggest enhancements leveraging advanced Power BI features and (optionally) Microsoft Fabric / AI-driven capabilities.

Mandatory Skills (Strong senior-level capability required)

  1. Power BI (core expertise) – dashboards, modelling, optimisation
  2. DAX – advanced, scenario-based problem solving
  3. SQL – joins, aggregations, analytical logic
  4. Data Visualisation & UX Best Practices
  5. Analytical Thinking / Problem Solving

Technical Skill Requirements

Essential

  • Power BI:
  • DAX (measures, calculations, complex logic)
  • Data modelling: star schema, relationships, filter context
  • Power Query / ETL transformations
  • Performance optimisation
  • Dashboard design, KPI build, UX design
  • Strong communication skills — ability to work closely with traders and senior stakeholders.

Nice-to-Have (Not mandatory but beneficial)

  • SQL scenario-based analysis
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric
  • Exposure to AI/Copilot features:
  • AI DAX generation
  • AI-powered dataflows
  • Exploratory/semantic link capabilities
  • Understanding of data pipelines, data engineering concepts, or transformation layers (not hands-on responsibility).

Experience Required

  • Demonstrable experience in large, complex enterprise data environments
  • Able to handle high-volume datasets efficiently
  • Industry background in energy or trading is beneficial but not required
  • (Candidates from banking or other data-heavy sectors also suitable)

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communicator — confident with demanding stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Strong ownership mentality
  • Team player with the ability to lead technically
  • Proactive mindset, able to challenge existing solutions constructively
