Data Architect (Insurance)

3-6 Month Contract | £400 per day | Outside IR35 | Hybrid London

A growing technology consultancy is looking to engage an experienced Data Architect to support the delivery of a high-profile data transformation programme for a leading insurance client operating within the Lloyd's of London market.

This engagement will focus on modernising core data platforms, improving data governance capabilities, and shaping the future-state architecture across key insurance data domains. The successful consultant will work closely with both client stakeholders and delivery teams to design scalable, secure, and business-aligned data solutions.

What You'll Be Doing

• Define and drive the target-state data architecture across enterprise SQL and PostgreSQL environments.
• Design and implement logical, conceptual, and physical data models.
• Assess existing data landscapes and create modernisation and migration roadmaps.
• Support large-scale database migration, rationalisation, and optimisation initiatives.
• Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into robust data solutions.
• Establish best practices across data governance, metadata, lineage, data quality, and security.
• Provide architectural oversight for integration, reporting, and analytics workloads.
• Review and enhance database performance, scalability, resilience, and availability.
• Produce architecture documentation and contribute to design authority and governance forums.

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience delivering Data Architecture solutions within the Insurance sector.
• Previous Lloyd's of London market experience is essential.
• Strong hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL and advanced SQL development.
• Deep understanding of insurance data domains including policy administration, claims, underwriting, broker, customer, billing, risk, and reinsurance data.
• Experience designing enterprise-grade data models and data architectures.
• Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata management, and lineage.
• Experience supporting database transformation and migration programmes.
• Ability to operate effectively within complex, highly regulated environments.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with ACORD or other insurance industry data standards.
• Exposure to cloud-based PostgreSQL platforms across AWS or Azure.
• Experience with SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration projects.
• Knowledge of modern analytics platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse, Fabric, or Redshift.
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT tooling including dbt, Airflow, Informatica, Talend, SSIS, or similar technologies.
