Data Architect - Greater Manchester (Hybrid) - Up to £80,000

We're working with a highly successful, private equity-backed organisation that is undergoing a major data transformation programme and investing heavily in its data and analytics capabilities.

Recognising data as a critical business asset, the organisation has made significant investments in both technology and leadership to build a modern, enterprise-wide data platform. As part of this exciting greenfield initiative, they're seeking an experienced Data Architect to define and lead the future-state data architecture strategy.

This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of enterprise data architecture, work closely with senior leadership, and play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation's data-driven future.

The Opportunity

As the Data Architect, you'll be responsible for designing, governing, and evolving the enterprise data platform, creating a secure, scalable foundation for reporting, analytics, AI, and future innovation.

Working alongside executive stakeholders and technology leaders, you'll define the architectural vision and drive the implementation of a modern Microsoft-centric Lakehouse and Data Warehouse environment built around Microsoft Fabric and Databricks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement enterprise-scale Data Warehouse and Lakehouse architectures
  • Define and deliver the organisation's data platform strategy leveraging Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, and Databricks
  • Create scalable data models, storage structures, and architectural standards
  • Establish governance frameworks covering security, access management, lineage, and data quality
  • Design modern data integration, orchestration, and transformation pipelines
  • Implement CI/CD standards and best practices for data products and platforms
  • Drive adoption of architectural standards, performance optimisation, and scalability principles
  • Partner with senior business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into technical solutions

Required Experience

  • Proven experience designing enterprise Data Warehouse and Lakehouse solutions
  • Strong expertise across Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Platform technologies, and modern cloud data architectures
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks, Unity Catalog, and Delta Lake
  • Advanced SQL and PySpark development skills
  • Experience implementing Medallion Architecture principles
  • Strong data modelling expertise, including Star Schema and Data Vault methodologies
  • Solid understanding of data governance, security, compliance, and access controls
