Data Engineer

Up to £60,000

We are working with an organisation that is going through an exciting period of growth and continued investment across its technology and data landscape. With data playing an increasingly important role across the business, there is a real focus on strengthening the platform, improving engineering capability and creating a more scalable approach to how data is managed and used.

As part of this investment, they are looking for a Data Engineer to join their Data & Innovation team. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants more than simply to maintain existing pipelines. You will have the chance to work hands-on across the data environment, using your SQL and engineering expertise to build new solutions, improve existing processes and contribute to the evolution of a modern Microsoft-based data platform.

The role offers plenty of variety, with responsibility spanning data pipelines, integrations, transformations and SQL database performance. You will work closely with colleagues across technology as well as teams throughout the wider organisation, understanding their requirements and turning them into reliable, scalable data solutions. There is also scope to identify areas for improvement and make a genuine contribution to how the organisation's data platform develops.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve scalable data pipelines using Databricks, playing a key role in the continued growth of the organisation's data platform.
  • Bring data together from a variety of sources, developing and refining ETL processes that provide trusted, usable data for reporting, analytics and decision-making.
  • Develop high-performing SQL and Python transformations, ensuring solutions are robust, maintainable and capable of supporting future growth.
  • Take ownership of SQL development across queries, stored procedures and database objects
  • Get involved in the ongoing development of data warehouses, data models and the wider data architecture

Skills & Experience

  • Experience working professionally within a Data Engineering environment, with a track record of delivering reliable data solutions.
  • Strong practical experience with Databricks and the ability to develop, support and troubleshoot data engineering workloads.
  • A solid background in ETL and data integration
  • Strong programming capability across SQL and Python
  • Experience working with relational databases and modern data architectures, ideally with an understanding of the medallion architecture.

What's on Offer

  • Salary of up to £60,000.
  • Hybrid working, with 2 days per week on site.
  • The chance to join a growing Data & Innovation team and be part of an exciting period of development.
  • The opportunity to work hands-on with modern Microsoft data technologies, including Databricks, SQL, Python and PySpark.
  • Real scope to influence how the organisation's data platform develops, with the opportunity to introduce improvements and shape future ways of working.
  • A collaborative and varied environment, giving you exposure to a wide range of data, engineering and technology projects.
