Data Migration Engineer/Analyst
Contract | 5 Months | £400-£450/day | Outside IR35 | Fully Remote (Occasional London Meetings)
We are looking for an experienced Data Migration Analyst / Engineer to support the rebuild of a data warehouse for a wealth management firm undergoing a complex system and data migration programme.
Working alongside the Lead Data Engineer and in parallel with a separate application migration team, this role is focused on ensuring the newly built data warehouse faithfully reproduces existing business outputs through robust source-to-target mapping, migration validation, and transformation analysis.
This is primarily a lift-and-shift migration, not a greenfield redesign, and requires someone who can operate independently, identify gaps, and translate complex legacy logic into a modern data warehouse environment.
Key Responsibilities- Take ownership of data migration and source-to-target mapping activities supporting the rebuilt data warehouse.
- Review limited or incomplete existing mapping documentation and complete or remediate gaps where required.
- Analyse legacy SQL stored procedures, transformations, and pipelines to understand reporting and MI logic.
- Reconcile outputs from the application migration team with current data warehouse logic to ensure continuity of business outputs.
- Validate that the new warehouse accurately replicates existing reporting and MI, identifying discrepancies and data gaps.
- Support the design and build of dimensional models where necessary.
- Perform reconciliation and migration testing, producing exception reporting and supporting issue resolution.
- Document data lineage, transformations, and dependencies from source systems through to downstream consumption.
- Contribute to assessing reporting dependencies and ensuring downstream consumers (e.g. MI, dashboards) remain consistent post-migration.
- Engage with stakeholders to extract undocumented logic and business rules where required.
- Proven experience in data warehouse migrations, including source-to-target mapping, gap analysis, and migration validation.
- Financial services background (wealth management or asset management strongly preferred).
- Strong SQL Server skills, with the ability to independently read and interpret complex legacy stored procedures (multi-CTE logic, temp tables, parameterised processes).
- Field-level data lineage and mapping documentation experience.
- Hands-on experience with reconciliation, validation, and exception reporting.
- Familiarity with medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold).
- Ability to produce clear, structured technical documentation.
- Comfortable working autonomously and extracting knowledge from technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience with Azure SQL Server and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Experience with custody or investment platform migrations.
- Exposure to wealth management CRMs (e.g. Curo or similar).
- Understanding of Azure Data Factory and/or Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Ability to review Power BI report structures and identify field-level dependencies.
- Experience operating within a consultancy-led delivery model.
- Duration: 5 months
- Rate: £400-£450 per day
- IR35 Status: Outside IR35
- Location: Fully remote
- Travel: Occasional meetings in London (infrequent)
