Platform Engineer - Azure DevOps / 6 months contract £545/d inside IR35

About the Role
We are seeking a Lead Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Developer with deep expertise in Azure and Bicep to help architect, secure, and automate our enterprise Azure platform.
This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role where you will define how Azure is built and governed across the organisation. You will partner closely with platform engineering, application teams, and enterprise architects to deliver modular, secure, and scalable deployment frameworks that enable teams to move fast-safely.
What You’ll Do
Architect & Standardise Azure Deployments
- Design and maintain enterprise-grade Bicep module libraries
- Build and manage private Bicep registries with versioning and documentation
- Define reusable deployment patterns aligned to Azure best practices
Automate End-to-End Delivery
- Integrate Bicep templates into robust Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines
- Implement validation, what‐if analysis, and controlled promotions across environments
- Enable self-service infrastructure with built-in governance
Security, Governance & Guardrails as Code
- Implement Azure Policy and Initiative definitions as code
- Enforce compliance, cost control, naming standards, and tagging automatically
- Work with security and architecture teams to embed governance by design
Platform Engineering & Azure Expertise
- Design and deploy enterprise Azure services including:
- Networking: VNETs, peering, Private DNS, routing
- Compute: VMs, Load Balancers, Scale Sets
- Identity: RBAC, Managed Identities, least-privilege access models
Modernisation & Migration
- Transition legacy ARM templates and manual builds into clean, maintainable Bicep
- Improve consistency, reliability, and auditability of Azure environments
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive, hands-on experience with Bicep at enterprise scale
- Strong understanding of:
- Loops, conditions, decorators
- Subscription, management group, and tenant‐level deployments
- Deep Azure knowledge across networking, compute, and identity
- Proficiency with Git, Azure CLI, and PowerShell
- Proven ability to debug complex deployment failures and API version issues
- Experience working in regulated or large-scale environments
Desirable
- Experience with Azure Verified Modules (AVM)
- Microsoft certifications:
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Azure DevOps Engineer Expert
