Product Owner - Outside IR35 - Hybrid - Active SC or BPSS required

We are looking for an experienced Product Owner to lead the development and evolution of our cloud-based data platform, with a strong focus on AWS and Databricks. You will sit at the intersection of business, data engineering, and analytics, translating strategic goals into clear product outcomes and actionable backlogs.

You'll own the roadmap for data products that enable analytics, machine learning, and data-driven decision-making at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for data platform capabilities on AWS and Databricks

  • Work closely with data engineers, architects, analysts, and stakeholders to define and prioritise features and enhancements

  • Translate business requirements into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical requirements

  • Act as the primary point of contact for data platform stakeholders across the organisation

  • Ensure data products are scalable, secure, cost-efficient, and aligned with best practices

  • Drive adoption and value realisation of Databricks (e.g. data engineering, analytics, ML use cases)

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to plan sprints, manage dependencies, and remove blockers

  • Balance short-term delivery with long-term platform strategy

  • Monitor platform usage, performance, and ROI, and continuously optimise based on feedback

  • Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and regulatory requirements

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner (or Product Manager with strong delivery focus) in data or platform teams

  • Strong hands-on understanding of AWS services, particularly those used in data platforms (e.g. S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, IAM)

  • Solid experience with Databricks, including data engineering and analytics use cases

  • Familiarity with modern data architectures (lakehouse, data lakes, streaming, batch processing)

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong prioritisation and decision-making skills

  • Comfortable working with cross-functional teams in complex environments

Desirable (Nice to Have)

  • Experience supporting machine learning or advanced analytics platforms

  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and metadata management

  • Background in SQL, Python, or similar (not required to code, but must be data-literate)

  • Experience managing cloud cost optimisation initiatives

  • Databricks or AWS certifications
