Senior Data Architect

Role Overview

As a Data Architect, you will operate within a consultancy environment, contributing to the technical delivery of projects across areas such as data ingestion, storage, integration, warehousing, preparation, and cloud-based infrastructure.

The primary objective of this role is to design and deliver scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data architectures in cloud environments. These solutions should empower clients to leverage their data effectively, enabling advanced analytics, streamlined processing, and informed decision-making.

Key Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should be able to:

• Demonstrate strong end-to-end expertise in enterprise-scale data and analytics solutions, particularly within modern architectures such as lakehouse platforms and AI/ML-enabled ecosystems.
• Provide informed recommendations based on industry knowledge, promoting innovative and effective approaches to data platform design.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, confidently presenting solutions, prototypes, and technical concepts.
• Influence and shape client data strategies, encouraging best practices while constructively challenging assumptions when needed.
• Gather and interpret requirements from both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Take ownership of delivering high-quality solutions that meet client expectations.
• Ensure delivery aligns with agreed timelines, while maintaining standards for performance, scalability, and security.
• Contribute to internal architectural standards, reusable patterns, and knowledge sharing within the practice.

Technical Expertise

• Extensive experience in data analytics, consulting, or related disciplines.
• Strong knowledge of data modelling techniques, including 3NF and dimensional (Kimball) approaches.
• Proven experience designing and implementing modern data warehouse solutions.
• Hands-on experience with Azure-based data engineering tools such as Data Factory, Azure SQL, and Synapse.
• Practical experience working with Microsoft Fabric for end-to-end data solutions.
• Solid understanding of both relational and non-relational databases, including SQL, Cosmos DB, and KQL.
• Experience building and managing data pipelines across cloud and on-premise environments.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and communication skills.
• Willingness to continuously learn and adopt new technologies.

Desirable Skills

• Background in consulting environments
• Knowledge of data governance frameworks and tools such as Microsoft Purview
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and networking in Azure
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric implementations
• Familiarity with Databricks
• Exposure to machine learning and AI concepts
• Python for data engineering tasks
• Experience with DevOps practices
• Knowledge of Power BI data modelling

Certifications (Optional)

• Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
• Azure Data Engineering certifications (DP-203 / DP-700)
• Azure Solutions Architect (AZ-305)

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and select appropriate cloud technologies for data storage, processing, and analytics.
• Clearly communicate architectural decisions to stakeholders at varying levels of technical understanding.
• Collaborate across all levels of an organisation, from senior leadership to engineering teams.
• Design new cloud-native solutions or modernise existing systems for cloud environments.
• Lead architectural initiatives and ensure successful delivery within scope, budget, and timelines.
• Present complex ideas in a clear and engaging way to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Apply a strong understanding of engineering delivery processes throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support business development through contributions to proposals and proof-of-concept solutions.
