Senior Engineering Manager

Senior Engineering Manager – Data & AI - London (Hybrid)

Azure & Microsoft Data Stack (Databricks, Fabric, Power Platform)

Up to £110,000

I’m currently working with a globally established organisation that continues to grow and invest following more than 60 years of success. The business has delivered over 1,000 complex projects worldwide with a combined value exceeding $150bn and today employs 2,500+ people across three continents. This is an organisation with real scale, long‐term stability, and a clear vision for modernising how data and technology are used across the enterprise.

What consistently attracts senior engineers to this business is its culture: experienced and approachable leadership, a people‐first mindset, and a strong commitment to flexibility, long‐term career development, and progression. This is a role where you’ll be trusted as a senior technical leader — not just a people manager — and empowered to shape outcomes at a global level.

From a technology perspective, the organisation is making significant long‐term investment in Data & AI as part of a wider digital modernisation programme. This role sits at the heart of that journey, combining engineering leadership, platform ownership, delivery assurance, and technical oversight across modern Azure‐based data platforms.

You will work with:

  • Global data engineering teams across Data Platforms, Power Platform, and Collaboration tooling
  • Senior stakeholders across Digital Transformation, IT, Product, and Project functions
  • External delivery partners and vendors across multi‐vendor models
  • A modern Microsoft & Azure ecosystem including Databricks, Fabric, Azure, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, and Azure DevOps

What the role involves:

  • Leading globally distributed data engineering teams, providing clarity, consistency, and strong delivery outcomes
  • Acting as a senior technical authority, guiding engineering decisions and platform evolution across Azure and Databricks‐based architectures
  • Embedding engineering standards, sprint discipline, CI/CD practices, and predictable delivery rhythms across multiple squads
  • Coaching and developing engineering leads to strengthen internal capability and build high‐performing teams
  • Aligning priorities and unblocking delivery across a complex stakeholder landscape
  • Overseeing vendor‐led delivery, ensuring quality, governance, and value for money
  • Owning platform and service stability, including Level 2/3 support practices and smooth service transitions
  • Championing continuous improvement across tooling, engineering maturity, and delivery practice

Benefits:

  • 8% employer pension contribution
  • 25 days annual leave plus holiday purchase options
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Flexible benefits including gym discounts, cycle‐to‐work scheme, and season ticket loans

Key experience:

  • Proven experience leading multi‐disciplinary data engineering teams at scale
  • Strong background working across multi‐vendor delivery models
  • Solid understanding of Agile delivery, sprint planning, and delivery assurance
  • Broad technical knowledge of Azure, Databricks, Fabric, Power Platform, SharePoint, and DevOps
  • Experience scaling teams and maturing engineering functions
  • Confident communicator with strong senior stakeholder management skills
  • Azure certifications beneficial (degree desirable but not essential)
